Overview

Hûkero Oyu̽zû was founded durring the late 11th century, by Glkarë Trêrêgëm. The establishment of Hûkero Oyu̽zû suffered from several major issues, resulting in the need to develop many solutions to basic problems. Problems such as a lack of fresh water, logistical support, poor quality tools, and the odd monster or two. Howeaver, these were overcome in time.

Hûkero Oyu̽zû was built using the conventions of Wareneese durring the late 11th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Hûkero Oyu̽zû is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature timber framed wooden shiethed or brick construction, which gives form to a very formalized, rational, expence effishent arcatectural style based on strictly symmetrical designs which universaly feature pitched roofs, shutters, and the occasional column or pilaster for a decorative touch.

Hûkero Oyu̽zû is buildings have been located at convienant points along the rivers Hûkero Oyu̽zû was built upon. Navigating the town is therefore a little chalanging as the distance between buildings verris greatly and the broad paverstone streets flow where they are able to be made rather than folowing the most convienant paths. The town posesses a mighty albit amaturly crafted stone wall. It was built using querried stone blocks and posesses all of the standard defencive features, including a few watch towers. While it would last against a siege, the wall's outdated and simplistic construction method percludes the possability of Hûkero Oyu̽zû weathering a full scale bombardment durring a siege. Unfortuantly, these budget focused millitary grade defenses are in extreem disrepair, so much so that one cannot tell if they are decaying from a lack of mantance or damage incured.

A look around Hûkero Oyu̽zû has something terribly wrong with it. It’s impossible to put one’s finger on, but something is horribly wrong. Maybe it’s the way fog blankets the ground, but only in the connors of places. Maybe it’s the vermin scuttling between shadows in the corner of your eyes. Perhaps it’s the overcast sky which seemed to creep out of nowhere, or the distant howling of wolves. Maybe it’s all of those things together, or perhaps it's the way these elements combine which makes you worry someone might stab you in a dark ally for your boots. It’s not filthy, or dark, but the smiles seem strained, the locals seem to glare daggers in eachothers backs a little too much, and everyone is armed at all times. You may want to keep an eye on your valuables, and make sure you don’t wind up in any position of power. Regardless, you do not feel it would be wise to remain in Hûkero Oyu̽zû long.

Cultural Notes

While Hûkero Oyu̽zû might ostensibly be ruled by some other power, real control lies with the senior members of the local craft and labor guilds. Their decisions have the practical weight of law, and much of their time and effort is spent squeezing out competitors and parceling out economic opportunities in the community. Some guilds might have little or nothing to do with their original trade, and now exist purely as shells for political influence.

Hûkero Oyu̽zû's bank was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used embraces individualism and experimentation. It emerged as a movement against traditional, classical styles and sought to make buildings dynamic and fun while breaking the rules. The style incorporated elements of previous architectural styles in exaggerated and whimsical ways. Traditional, conservative leanings were void in this era, with most scholars of architecture agreeing it was a time of “anything goes.”.

Due to the actions of local Kami, winter is short in Hûkero Oyu̽zû.

The Ghoul near Hûkero Oyu̽zû are known to be a mutant strain of the creature.

Hûkero Oyu̽zû's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in spring and involves bloodletting to channel Truename Magic energies of tier 1 via oath swearing.

History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the early 2nd century, Hûkero Oyu̽zû was attacked by soldiers from another nation, waging a greater campaign. The details of the conflict are hazy at best due to many conflicting accounts. What is known is Hûkero Oyu̽zû lost 208 people, 396 livestock, and 31 buildings. The conflict ended after roughly 67, when members of Hûkero Oyu̽zû's militia enacted an operation to capture a particular strategic location intact. The operation was complicated by the enemy forces had far more numbers than estimated. The conflict ended with the defense of the strategic location against a siege, which ended in victory for Hûkero Oyu̽zû's forces. The war is remembered in legend by Hûkero Oyu̽zû's bards, historians, and legend keepers.
